Ohio parents
of children with autism won another round last week in their lawsuit to prevent
Medicaid from refusing to cover Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) services to
their children. The Parents League for
Effective Autism Services sued the Ohio Department of Mental Health and the
Department of Job and Family Services to block the state from implementing new
Medicaid rules that would prohibit them from receiving services required by the
federal Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnostic, and Treatment program.
The pre-trial conference is set for September 2, 2009, and the trial could
have far-reaching consequences on federal funding for autism services.
